One of the downsides of apartment living is the fact that space is limited. Declutter help is available for apartment-dwellers. Give a bit of time and effort and your apartment will look clutter free. Here are some tips:

Choose An Area

Starting anything is always a mind-boggling activity. You have to choose where to begin your decluttering. You can begin with the bedroom closet and move to other areas of the bedroom. Ask a friend or family member to help with declutterby advising whether to keep or discard clothes and accessories inside your closet.

Entrance ways may sometimes be a repository of things brought from outside. Children will leave skate boards or even bicycles by the entrance. If there is side table near the door there are keys, letters, envelopes and others that are just left on top.

Work around the area in a clockwise manner. Do not stop until the whole area has been given attention.

Be Sure to Have Your Declutter Tools

You do not have to be a professional organizer to know what declutter help tools you need. Have enough garbage bags, empty boxes, markers and a dust rag. You can mark the boxes "donate","throw" or "keep". In this manner you are already organizing items which will be easy to further segregate when you are done with cleaning the area.

Schedule Your Declutter Day

A schedule is needed to keep you on track. This can be any day as long as you have enough time to finish what you are doing. The worst thing that can happen is that you stop and not being able to unclutter the area. You can even start with 15-30 minutes daily with a target area. For sure, this "baby step" will result in completing the area in a few days. There is a declutter help calendar that is available online. You can print this and follow the routine suggested.

How to Decide Which Things to Keep

You can ask yourself some questions what action to take for a particular thing or item. Do you need this item now or in the future? Is there an emotional attachment to the object? If you get rid of it will you feel comfortable and not guilty? Can you donate or pass it on to someone? Is the item still usable for you or for someone else? You can also ask the opinion of your declutter help buddy about this.

If the box marked "throw" is full do not waste time to bring it to the garbage bin. Eliminate clutter as much as you can to be able to have a sense of accomplishment. Start another "throw" box when you have already disposed the full one.

When the box marked "keep" is full, organize it or place the items on shelves or cabinets. If you are undecided where to place the items just keep them in a place where it will not be an eye sore. You can always work on this at a later time.

Even if apartments may not have so much space, it is still a gargantuan task if you have clutter all around. Declutter help is always available for those who resolve to do something about their mess. There are resources online or declutter groups that can assist you. All you have to do is contact them and discuss your predicament.
